Westfield Fountain Gate

Westfield Fountain Gate

Westfield Fountain Gate, a super-regional shopping center located in Narre Warren, in the south-eastern suburbs Melbourne, Australia. It is Australia’s second-largest shopping mall by area. It is home to all three-discount department stores Big W, Target, and Kmart, making it the largest shopping mall in Australia.

The center opened in November 1970. It was later reconstructed and reopened by Sir Henry Winneke (Victorian Governor at the time), on March 11, 1980. Major tenants were Kmart and Coles. The adjacent homemaker center was opened in September 1988. In July 1995, the Westfield Group purchased the center. The complex was then expanded and redeveloped to become a larger facility. It was completed in November 2001. The center hosts a variety of major chains including Kmart, Coles, Woolworths, Big W, Target, Myer, Toy Kingdom, ALDI and approximately 320 other specialty stores.

Between 2011 and 2012, the complex underwent major expansions. The City of Casey approved the extension in December 2007. It included a new two-level 12,000m 2 Myer store and a new 4,200m 2 Coles shop. The new location was near the former BILO. Target’s retail space increased from 6,884m 2 to 8,368m 2. David Jones was originally set to open a new store in the new expansion. However, Westfield terminated his contract in July 2010. Myer replaced David Jones in this expansion. David Jones was trying to end its contract with Westfield Group from 2003. Fountain Gate didn’t fit the company’s strategy or target audience. David Jones had been trying to exit its contract with Westfield Group since 2003. Fountain Gate was not in line with the company’s strategy or target demographic.

It is also the home of the original Krispy Kreme Victoria.

The complex now has a new building. It is the City of Casey’s new entertainment precinct. It is the creative heart of the region. This is the new home for the Narre Warren Library.

Narre Warren railway station, located approximately 1 km from the center, is connected by several bus routes to Westfield Fountain Gate. Fountain Gate is also served by regional buses.

The Monash Freeway’s new Hallam Bypass section, which was opened in 2003, runs beside the complex. It can be seen from the windows of the food court. The Hallam Bypass Trail, a trail that was constructed in the same period, is located beside the center’s north-east corner. It provides pedestrian and cyclist access.
